In Vlore (Albania) we have successfully concluded an Albanian-Slovenian funded project. Main results were two ecoremediation measures (a constructed wetland and a storm water retention pond).
The project was implemented by LIMNOS Ltd in cooperation with BCCD (Balkan center for cooperation and development). On February 21 there was an opening ceremony for both locations in Vlore, participated by Slovenian ambassador Ms Lea Stančič and Mayor of Vlore, Mr. Dritan Leli.

The first location is a demonstration-education facility of a constructed wetland near a high school, treating the wastewaters in sustainable manner. Such approach is demonstrated as highly suitable for the entire region as it is efficient and simple to maintain. The cooperation with local construction partners is an affirmation of possibility to execute such project anywhere in the country, particularly in rural areas.

Students of the school also received measurement equipment for monitoring of influent and effluent at the constructed wetland to prove the efficiency of the installation.

The second ecoremediation measure is natural water retention pond in cases of heavy precipitation. In dry period the pond enables animal habitat and green area for increased life quality of local inhabitants (meeting area). Flood safety is an important issue in the city of Vlore and a new pond is a demonstration of an efficient protection measure with multifunctional purpose. It is the first case of green infrastructure in the city.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of Center for international cooperation and development, LIMNOS and local partners. Inspection of both sites followed the ceremony.
