In October 2026, we attended a meeting at Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands as part of the BIOREM project. The project combines systems biology, artificial intelligence, and advanced biotechnological approaches to improve soil bioremediation.
Our visit also included a tour of the laboratory and outdoor pilot-scale constructed wetlands. We learned about research into the removal of micropollutants from water, exploring the roles of plants, microorganisms, and different substrates. Laboratory experiments are complemented by longer-term field trials, allowing researchers to monitor system performance under varying conditions.
For LIMNOS, this exchange of knowledge is important for the continued development of nature-based solutions for water treatment and the remediation of contaminated sites.
