CONSTRUCTED WETLANDS
Constructed wetlands (CW) imitate the self-cleaning ability of nature.
Their characteristics are:
- reduction of nitrogen, phosphorus substances, heavy metals and other toxic compounds, and bacteria,
- removal efficiency up to 90 %,
- cost-effective construction, performance and maintenance,
- no need for energy or mechanical equipment,
- easy to set-up and maintain,
- nice fit into the local environment.
Constructed wetlands treat:
- sewage (settlements, tourist centers, natural parks),
- technological waste water (industries, farms),
- landfill leachate (municipal landfill sites),
- non-point sources of pollution (highway run-off, agricultural run-off),
- tertiary waters with the potential for reuse (irrigation, fire fighting).
